Home Tour

With this home, we became first time home owners and have already learned a lot. We moved in July 4th weekend in 2016 with the help of friends and family, and have been busy making it our own ever since. Below, you can see each space we have worked on so far and links to posts about each one.

Exterior

Move in day kind of looked like this.

Progress: We have painted the front door, updated the bay windowreplanted garden 1 and garden 2, and finally tackled the porch columns which made the biggest difference!

Living Room

This room has made due with our existing furniture and beige walls for awhile. I did a little rearranging here, updated the bay window, painted the fireplace mantle, then decided to also paint the brick, and we added new ceiling fans we just adore!

Kitchen & Dining Room

Before, these were two separate rooms. You would walk through a large cased door way into the dining room to be able to get to the kitchen in the corner of the house. Walking through the kitchen door, you would walk in and see the side of the fridge. The flow was all bad, the cabinets were not as nice to live with as they look in the photo, the space was very dark in reality, and we never wanted to cook because you would feel closed off from everything else.

After! We knocked down the wall between the rooms and did a lot of other stuff, making this space so much more functional and beautiful. You can read all about our floor plan, finish choices, renovation weeks 1&2, and week 3, and see the big reveal here. I also did really in depth posts on the IKEA purchasing process and build process, and discussed how it affected our relationship.

Sun Room

This space is right off the kitchen. It has older windows, but the size is just right and has that beautiful wood ceiling.

You can read more about this room here.

Office

We turned this basic room into a highly functioning space with new furniture and book shelves. See the reveal here.

Master Bedroom

Some paint, trim paint, window shadesnew furniture and our DIY picture ledge has brought this room to where it is today.

Guest Bedroom

This room has undergone quite a few transitions already since we didn’t quite know what we wanted to do with it. You can see it’s previous alter egos and the mood board, then the big reveal and then how I repainted the whole room slightly different.

Hallway Bathroom

We chose to save the original 1960’s pink tile in this bathroom and did a minimal remodel to really make it shine. We documented the whole remodel and you can follow along through these links: Pink Bathroom Renovation: Week 1 | Pink Bathroom Renovation: Week 2 |Painting a Tile Floor | Pink Bathroom Renovation: Weeks 3 & 4 | Pink Bathroom RevealPatching the Bathroom Wall

Out Back

At move in, it kind of looked like this. Most of the backyard used to be an in ground pool that was filled before we bought the house. They tried to grow grass, but it didn’t go very well in the heat of summer.

Progress: We were able to grow some grass using our new found knowledge in fertilizer, and removed the huge bush blocking our view of the yard from the sun room.
